FENECON grew out of a family farm in Lower Bavaria. Franz-Josef Feilmeier founded the company in 2011, and with his brother Stefan developed the first FENECON energy storage systems in the farm’s barn. Today it designs, builds and sells battery storage and energy management systems for homes, businesses and industry, with its headquarters and main production in Iggensbach, in the Deggendorf district.
By 2023 FENECON employed about 300 people and reported revenue of roughly €140 million. In March 2024 it opened its CarBatteryReFactory in Iggensbach, which turns used electric-vehicle batteries into stationary storage and is designed for up to 30,000 home systems a year.
FENECON sells complete storage systems rather than stand-alone inverters, and the hybrid inverter is the heart of each. The Home 6, 10 and 15 are three-phase hybrids for houses; the Home 20 and 30 serve larger properties with 14 to 168 kWh of battery. The Commercial 50 and Commercial 100 scale the same idea to businesses, and the datasheets list a ten-year warranty across the range.
The number in the name is the inverter’s AC power in kilowatts, so a Home 10 delivers 10 kW.
Energy management. FENECON’s FEMS software runs the whole system and is built on OpenEMS, an open-source energy management platform that FENECON started and keeps publicly available. The company has collected several industry prizes, including an ees Award in 2023 and The smarter E Award in 2025.
The trade-off is that FENECON is a package: inverter, battery and energy management are designed and sold together, which suits buyers who want one integrated system more than those shopping for an inverter alone.
Two versions of the Home 10 behave very differently. The two-tracker version accepts 1,000 V but takes only 12.5 A per tracker and needs 200 V to start, while the three-tracker version allows 16 A from 120 V. A 182 mm-cell panel works at 13–14 A, so on the two-tracker unit it loses a little at midday, and the higher start-up voltage means a string of at least seven panels.
The Home 20 and 30 raise the current to 30 A per tracker, enough for two strings in parallel. At the top end, twenty 41 V panels reach about 900 V on a −10 °C morning — within the 1,000 V limit. The string calculator checks each FENECON model for cold-weather voltage, the MPPT window and per-tracker current.
