MPP Solar Inc. is a Taiwanese maker of off-grid and hybrid solar inverters, headquartered in Taipei’s Neihu District. The company cites more than 20 years of UPS and inverter production experience behind its products, which include off-grid inverters for 120 V and 230 V markets, split-phase and hybrid inverters, solar pump inverters, MPPT charge controllers and lithium battery systems. It sells through distributors and its own online store.
The PIP series is a line of all-in-one inverter-chargers, which combine an inverter, a battery charger and an MPPT solar charge controller in one box. The model listed here is the PIP5048MG, a 5 kW unit for a 48 V battery bank. The code reads simply: 50 for 5,000 W and 48 for the battery voltage. It suits a cabin, an off-grid home or a backup system that can also draw on the grid when solar and battery run short.
The PIP5048MG accepts at most 450 V of PV input and tracks between 120 and 430 V on a single tracker. A string’s open-circuit voltage rises on a frosty morning, so with large panels near 50 V open-circuit, eight in series is the practical ceiling; with smaller 60-cell-class panels near 40 V, ten fit. On a hot afternoon the working voltage must stay above 120 V, so plan on at least four panels.
